L'Avenir Single Block Chenin Blanc 2019
L'Avenir Single Block Chenin Blanc
Vinification
Fermentation at a temperature around 12-14 degrees, in stainless steel vats for a period of 3 days. The juice is then transferred to Acacia Barrels and French Oak to complete fermentation. This remaining process takes approximately 12 months.
Origin
The 2 hectares of planted Chenin Blanc is the oldest grape variety on the winery. The block was founded in 1976 and is one of the oldest in South Africa that is still in use. The block is located in a cooler part of the winery, facing south in close proximity to a dam. The soil hardly requires additional irrigation during the hot summer thanks to this dam. In some years the block is susceptible to Botrytis infection, which increases quality and creates an intricate, complex wine.
