Langmeil Blacksmith Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Langmeil Blacksmith Cabernet Sauvignon

In 1842, a 32-year-old blacksmith, Christian Auricht, settled in a hamlet of Langmeil. He started a shop here, which increased the village's trade. The artisan of iron has now given way to the new artisan who has blended the oldest Barossa traditions to forge this spectacular wine. This wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes grow on 15 - 35 year old vines on soils of black clay and red clay with limestone. The wine matures in 10% new oak barrels and in 90% used French oak barrels.

The color of this wine is deep crimson red with purple reflections. Blueberries, blackcurrants, mint and black olives dominate the aroma with warm cedar and hints of sweet spices, adding complexity. Juicy berries cover the palette and mingle with blackberry, hints of black olive and anise. The medium body has velvety soft and refined tannins from the grape and oak, which provide structure. The tannins transition into a long fruity and spicy finish.

Great with a nice steak or pasta.

Today, Chief Winemaker Paul Lindner oversees the vinification process and pays particular attention to making wine from individual vineyards, minimal handling and careful filtration to ensure distinctly well-balanced wines with subtle complexities. Langmeil shows that Barossa is capable of producing not only easily approachable wines but also more complex varieties with excellent aging potential.
